Today is Biscuit’s fifth birthday. Biscuit is a Golden Labrador Retriever who joined our family about a month
ago. Today he turned five-years old. We’ve celebrated throughout the day. For example, I got home from a five-mile run this morning and discovered he couldn’t wait for cake. He had gotten in to a shopping bag and eaten four packages of hamburger buns. That’s right…32 buns. When I walked in, he was hanging his head; Baba was shaking his head and growling something like, Oh, boy; and my cat, Pax, was pointing at Biscuit. So tonight we got him a new chew toy—since he has commandeered all of Baba’s toys. Baba has been nice enough to share them (when he’s not playing keep away) with him. Biscuit also got a big rawhide bone this evening. Of course, Baba had to have one too. For awhile Baba was carrying them both throughout the house while Biscuit followed him around waiting for one to be dropped.
Finally I got one away from Baba and Biscuit quickly retrieved it (That’s what they do. Retrieve.). Now they’re each up in the study chewing, chewing, chewing as I type this post.
Biscuit has made a good addition to the family and Baba has welcomed him like a brother.

Aw I wish I had known!
Just remember July 8th, 19th, and 23rd. ¿Comprende?
Happy birthday!!! Love those handsome boys:)
That is so LAB. Heidi is a little more selective. Other than a half pound of butter and helping herself to a few selected items when she was guarding the groceries in the car, she has pretty much resigned herself to anything that she finds during her floor patrol. She hasn’t chewed up anything for almost a week when she worked over my portable CD player. Now it matches what’s left of the headphones she munched the week before. I asked Evelyn the other night if she noticed that of all the items Heidi has chewed up, every one of them belonged to me. Evelyn said “That’s because she likes you.” and then she smiled at me.
That a boy, BISCUIT! As Baba chews his toy thinking……And this is my new brother!
Always enjoy visiting your site. Your insights are very wise and helpful. Incidentally, we love our pets, too. Every time someone moves, dies, gets sick or divorced, we wind up with their pets…All insiders. Three cats (2 siamese 1 of unknown nationality) three dogs (A Brittany spaniel, a westhighland terrier, and a sooner.). Something is wrong with someone who doesn’t love pets and children. ~dk
