When we were vacationing at Holden Beach earlier this month, a grackle hung out on the deck rail each day, screaming at the top of his little lungs. I caught him mid-scream:
One day while Cristin and I were shooting (possibly to escape the grackle’s hollering), I got this geometric view under the pier:
I like the beach but I’m looking forward to going to the mountains with Susan and the new Nikon D-40 she got me for my birthday. My goal is 1,000 photos in one week.

I. Love. That. Shot. Of. The. Grackle. I desire it printed at the size shown above in the center of a stark white but textured 8-ply mat with a huge field… something like 6 inches on the top and sides and a bottom weight of maybe 10 with a silver metal frame.
Not a hint or anything.
It’s so hazy. I’m glad you like it.
I love the haze. It looks like a Photoshop filter but I’m wise enough in the ways of Pshop to know that’s not the case here. Which is a relief because any old Joe can do that these days. I enjoy the real thing much mo’ betta.
Well, it’s not like I’d know how to do it on purpose. It was just a hazy day combined with a faraway subject.
Hence lovely.
