In Stitches

Softball season has begun again and this budding 52-year old hit the field for practice last night. The irony of the event is that I was not permitted to practice last week because I had stitches from the removal of a subcutaneous cyst, some skin tags, and “atypical nevi.” So I got those stitches removed yesterday afternoon and got some more at practice last night—thanks to Dennis. The ball he hit was coming right for my glove, when suddenly, it stopped spinning and curved quickly down and to my right. Because it had ceased spinning, I could clearly see the threading of the softball as its tragectory brought it toward by right shin. The ball struck hard and square, leaving me a whole new set of stitches. You can clearly see the “X” stitching of the softball on my leg.
